Privacy Policy
Backyard Weather Station · Last updated June 18, 2026
Backyard Weather Station is designed to be private by default. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
The app collects no personal data, sends nothing to the developer, and contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs.
Your Ambient Weather credentials
To show your station's data, the app needs your Ambient Weather API Key and Application Key, which you obtain from your own Ambient Weather account.
- These keys are stored only on your device, in the iOS Keychain.
- They are sent only to Ambient Weather's official API
(
rt.ambientweather.net) over an encrypted HTTPS connection, to retrieve your station's readings. - They are never transmitted to the developer or any other third party.
Weather data
Weather readings retrieved from the Ambient Weather API are used to display conditions, history, and forecasts in the app. The most recent reading and your station's name are cached on-device (in an app group container) so the home-screen widget can render. This data stays on your device.
Location
The app does not request or access your device's location. Sunrise, sunset, and related features use the coordinates already associated with your weather station in your Ambient Weather account — not your phone's GPS.
Third parties
The only network service the app communicates with is the Ambient Weather API, using your own credentials. Your use of that service is governed by Ambient Weather's own privacy policy and terms. The app includes no other third-party services, SDKs, or trackers.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
